Nemo Obi 1 Gear Review

by Steve Moon on August 1, 2013

A fine shelter by Nemo.

Over the weekend I had the good fortune of spending a 7 hour downpour in the NEMO Obi 1. Some of the other hikers in the group were complaining of water and condensation in their quality tents; however while they were chasing the sun under the trees to dry out their equipment I was off on an 8 mile scenic morning hike. This was all made possible because of their superior fabrics and side ventilation that allowed cross flow of air.

Superior fabrics by Nemo

NEMO Equipment, Inc established themselves in 2002, with the intention of bringing high-level design and engineering to the outdoor industry. Tents were where they saw themselves as making a real contribution to the industry. I think they are doing just that!

Often times while spending days in the outdoors, I am excited to have the opportunity to put a piece of gear to the test. The NEMO Obi 1 did not disappoint as it sets up in a flash in just over 5 leisure minutes with the tent foot print and the fly completely guyed.

The Obiā„¢ series tents use top shelf fabrics and hardware and a unique pole hub location. They achieve ethereal weights without sacrificing the room you need to enjoy your nights on the trail.

I am impressed with the interior room and how perfectly it fit me and my other sleeping luxuries. The Obi 1 is designed for fast and light, so if you favor a tent with a spacious interior or sheltering more than 1, then you should consider the Obi 2 or 3.

I was able to sit up comfortably in the Obi 1 and fix my morning coffee and Oatmeal in the vestibule alongside my boots and pack, all of which were bone dry after the 7 hour downpour!

Plenty of room in the vestibule.

The only drawback (if that is what yo want to call it) is that the stuff sack is a little overweight and a few ounces could be shaved as there is more than enough room for the tent, foot print and fly; although the compression straps are a nice compliment!
